The Richmond District, occupying the northwest corner of the peninsula of San Francisco, is a melting pot of largely White (Irish, Russian) and Asian cultures (primarily Chinese and Vietnamese). Known to locals as a solitary suburbia where homeowners & 30-somethings retreat to, it is recognizable mostly for its two major neighborhoods (the Outer and Inner Richmond), and its two major streets (Geary Boulevard and Clement Street).
These two pairings (Outer Richmond/Geary Boulevard, and Inner Richmond/Clement Street) perfectly encapsulate what the neighborhoods have to offer: the former a quiet place to live with a makeshift highway to get across town, and the latter an opportunity to explore cultures and cuisine typically reserved for cultural meccas.
This series explores the structures and streets of the Richmond District: from the Russian and Irish churches to the delicacies of Clement Street. While definitively not for everyone, it nonetheless is consistent in its offering and originality. If the song of suburbia is calling, this is likely where it will take you.
