The Mission District of San Francisco, also referred to as ‘The Mission’, is one of the areas hardest hit by the increasing presence and influence of gentrification. Originally known as ‘the Mission Lands’, this part of town occupies nearly 1.5 square miles, and hosts San Francisco’s famous Dolores Park.
In an effort to make easier to navigate, the Mission is divided into two sections - the Outer Mission (i.e. the Excelsior and Crocker-Amazon neighborhoods) and the area surrounding Valencia street (informally known as hipster central, much to the chagrin of its leather jacket-wearing and latte-sipping locals).
Distrito Misionero aims to showcase sidewalks and barrios that make this district uniquely beautiful, from the street art to the restaurants to the people (some welcome, some not).
