Originally named ‘Mission Park’ based on a 1903 ballot vote, today’s unofficially rebranded and renamed ‘Mission Dolores Park’ is a surprisingly accurate microcosm of culture in the city known for its schizophrenic microclimates. The use and notoriety of the park, however, has changed in the nearly 117 years since it was bought by the city of San Francisco.
While more than a century ago these two plots of land may be a sanctuary for refugees of a disastrous fire, nowadays it's a lightning rod for a large variety of San Franciscans to flock to when looking for a good time on a sunny day. Regardless of your definition of a ‘good time’, Dolores Park probably has what you’re looking for. The surrounding area, known as Dolores Heights, borders the Castro District, Noe Valley and Upper Market, and is known as an affluent and quiet neighborhood. This series aims to capture what life in the sun looks like for Dolores Park and Dolores Heights.
